Algaecides - What They Are & How They Prevent Algae

An
algaecide is a chemical with the specific purpose of eliminitating
existing algaeand/or preventing algae from forming in your swimming pool
water. Algae is a microscopic form of plant life, that trhives in many
pools. It can be free floating or cling to the walls, bottom, steps, and
ladders and comes in various colors, such as green, black, brown, yellow,
or pink. They may make your pool water look green and murky. Once it has
taken hold, it can be time consuming and expensive to get rid of. Nothing
is as apalling as going to take a dip in the pool and finding the water
any shade of green, brown, pink, or worse! Even so, you may find that
the discoloration of the pool water and slimy pool surfaces are the LEAST
of your problems as algae, if left untreated, can clog your pool filter
and cause a host of problems in your pool plumbing. As with most other
chemical applications made to swimming pools, the best course of action
is to prevent an algae problem before it starts! Use an algaecide to prevent
the growth of algae in the first place.
